All The Things I Never Said
In theory it’s the simplest thing
When I speak to only say words that I mean
All to frequently I acquiesce
I just say yes when I don’t want to
Just lately it’s occurred to me
It actually comes down to integrity
If I only say things to appease, or just to please
I’m pleasing no one
All the things I never said
Late at night I say them in my head
The things I wish I could say now
The perfect words go round and round
All the regrets I shouldn’t have
But it’s too late and it’s too bad
All the things I never said
I confess it is the hardest thing
I can find it awkward to say what I mean
Sometimes it comes out sounding mean, which I don’t mean
I was trying for honesty
Sometimes it is the strangest thing
I can’t even decipher what I mean
And when I realise it too late
The moment has escaped
And I didn’t tell you
All the things I never said
Late at night I say them in my head
The things I wish I could say now
The perfect words go round and round
All the regrets I shouldn’t have
But it’s too late and it’s too bad
All the things I never said
To have boundaries is like a superpower
It takes courage to tell someone when they have let you down
It’s so risky to tell someone you love her
I’ll learn to say the things I mean
Resentment won’t have its home in me
All the things I never said
Late at night I say them in my head
The things I wish I could say now
The perfect words go round and round
All the regrets I shouldn’t have
But it’s too late and it’s too bad
All the things I never said
